Accommodation

Swallow Krantz is located in the Winterberg mountain range, between Tarkastad and Adelaide.  This area of the Eastern Cape is mountainous with beautiful scenery.  The closest airports are East London and Port Elizabeth, where you will be met and transported to the ranch, Swallow Krantz.

Accommodation is in an old farm house, built in the 19th century by the Dutch settlers.  There are five bedrooms, with between one and four beds in each.  All have en suite bathrooms.  For larger groups, we use two nearby guesthouses, which can accommodate an additional fourteen people.

Our houses are not heated, but fireplaces and hot blankets ensure your comfort.  Temperatures in summer are between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, but winters can be cold with frost most nights, and occasional snow also occurs.  Warm jackets are essential.

Meals are enjoyed in the dining room, more casually in the bar, or in warmer weather, outside at the braai (barbeque) area.  A selection of local beef, lamb and game meat is served.  Special dietary requirements can be accommodated.

Regular laundry services are available, so it is not necessary to bring more than three changes of clothes.

Should flights arrive in the evenings, we recommend staying overnight in Johannesburg, East London or Port Elizabeth.  We will happily make arrangements for you at well known hotels or B&B’s.
